Welcome to the website of the 17th European Adhesion Conference (EURADH 2028), held together with the 8th Luso-Brazilian Conference on Adhesion and Adhesives (CLBA 2028). The conferences will take place at the University of the Azores, Portugal, from 13 to 15 September 2028.
The conference is chaired by the president of the Portuguese adhesion society, Lucas F. M. da Silva (University of Porto, Portugal), and co-chaired by João M. Bordado (University of Lisbon, Portugal). The presidents of the EURADH adhesion societies GEAA (Spanish Group on Adhesion and Adhesives) (Spain), DECHEMA (Germany), Société Française du Vide (France) and Adhesion and Adhesives Group, IoM3 (United Kingdom) are also co-chairs as well as the president of the Brazilian adhesion society ABAA.
The event will provide an international forum for researchers, engineers and professionals working in the science and technology of adhesion, adhesives and structural bonding. The conference will cover fundamental and applied topics, promoting scientific exchange between academia and industry.
The conference covers all aspects of the science and technology of adhesion and adhesives, including adhesion science, surface treatments, adhesive synthesis and formulation, joint design, testing and characterisation of adhesives, surfaces and bonded joints, industrial applications, durability, fracture mechanics, numerical modelling and environmental aspects.

Cancellation Policy
In case of cancellation, a written notification should be sent to the conference chairman. If it is received prior to July 7th, 2028, registration fees will be refunded with a deduction of €100. No refund can be made after July 7th, 2028.

The full papers will be published in special issues of The Journal of Adhesion (TAYLOR & FRANCIS), Proceedings of the Institution of Mechanical Engineers, Part L: Journal of Materials: Design and Applications (SAGE), Discover Mechanical Engineering (SPRINGER) and in a book of the book series Proceedings in Engineering Mechanics - Research, Technology and Education (SPRINGER) (provided they meet the journals standard).
The full papers should be sent to the e-mail lucas@fe.up.pt before the 13th of September 2028. The text should be in single column format and double line spacing.
Submission of a full length paper is not compulsory.

Prof Andreas Hartwig
(Fraunhofer-Institut für Fertigungstechnik und Angewandte Materialforschung, Germany)
Prof. Dr. Andreas Hartwig obtained his PhD at Cologne University. Since 1992, he is a scientist at Fraunhofer-IFAM and head of the department “Adhesives and Polymer Chemistry”. In 2006, he got his Habilitation and Privatdozent at University of Bremen for Macromolecular Chemistry. In 2012 he became Professor for Macromolecular Chemistry at University of Bremen. Since 2007 he is Deputy Director of Fraunhofer-IFAM. Between June 2009 and July 2010, he was acting director at Fraunhofer-IFAM. Since 2025. he is Chief Scientist of Fraunhofer IFAM. His research interests include adhesive bonding, adhesives chemistry, adhesion science, fibre reinforced plastics, thermosetting polymers, renewable raw materials, debonding on demand, ecological aspects of adhesive bonding, supramolecular concepts, nanocomposites, adhesive bonding in medicine.

Dr Shin Horiuchi
(National Institute of Advanced Industrial Science and Technology (AIST), Japan)
Dr. Shin Horiuchi is an adjunct researcher at AIST (National Institute of Advanced Industrial Science and Technology) and a visiting professor at the Center for Polymer Interface and Molecular Adhesion at Kyushu University. He took a position as a research scientist at National Institute of Materials and Chemical Research in 1994, which is a former organization of AIST. He served as the director of Adhesion and Interfacial Phenomena (AIRL) at AIST in Tsukuba, Japan, from 2023 to 2025. He graduated from Tokyo Institute of Technology (TIT) in 1985 and received his Ph.D. (1997) in organic and polymer materials from Tokyo Institute of Technology. His research mainly focuses on adhesion and interfacial phenomena using electron microscopy techniques.

Structural adhesive joints: fracture testing standards- their current limitations and future requirements

Prof Bamber Blackman
(Imperial College London, UK)
Bamber Blackman is Professor in Mechanics of Materials and Structures in the Department of Mechanical Engineering at Imperial College London. His research interests include the fracture mechanics of structural adhesive joints and polymeric fibre-reinforced composite materials, including effects of mode-mix, test rate, service environment and includes multi-material hybrid joints. He is actively involved in developing test standards and co-chairs the technical committee TC4 of the European Structural Integrity Society (ESIS) on polymers and composites. In 2024 he was elected as a Robert L. Patrick Fellow of the Adhesion Society in recognition of his outstanding contribution to the field of adhesion. He is the author of over 100 refereed papers and book chapters in the area of structural adhesives and composites.

Recent advances in shear failure of pressure-sensitive-adhesives

Prof Costantino Creton
(ESPCI Paris, France)
Costantino Creton obtained his Ph.D at Cornell University (USA). He joined the Laboratoire de Physico-Chimie Structurale et Macromoléculaire of the ESPCI Paris in 1993. He was promoted CNRS research director (equivalent to Professor) in 2001 in the Laboratory of Soft Matter Science and Engineering. He has been appointed Distinguished Professor at the Global Station for Soft Matter of Hokkaido University. He has published more than 220 articles in peer-reviewed journals. His research interests focus on the mechanical properties of polymers at interfaces and on deformation and fracture of soft polymer networks. He has received several prizes and awards including the Prix Dédale of the French Adhesion Society in 2007, the Wake Medal from the UK Society of Adhesion and Adhesives in 2011 and the Adhesion Society’s prize for Excellence in Adhesion Science in 2013.
Instructions for poster preparation will be available soon. The poster size will be maximum A0 (841 mm x 1189 mm) in portrait orientation. The text and illustrations should be readable from a distance of two meters.

Adhesion Innovation Award
FEICA and EURADH are pleased to announce the sixth edition of their Joint Award for Adhesion Science, which aims to stimulate interaction between industrial and scientific activities in adhesion science. The award is funded by FEICA and is presented at the EURADH conferences.
